About Christina

I get to know each of my students and the things they care about as the foundation and I prepare materials specific to each students' need and interests. I have a BS in Biology and my scientific background gives my language skills a precision that can strengthen a student's grasp of vocabulary use inside and outside of a scientific setting. This can be useful to anyone interested in working in a scientific or technical field, or those who would like to improve reading/comprehension of scientific papers and technical writing, and those looking to broaden the experience of reading/writing a work of fiction. I have been working in online education for 1 year.

Every student is different and each person's experience matters. It's a wonderful feeling to empower someone to use their voice, through spoken and written word, and find the confidence to follow their own paths in this world.

I began teaching sixth grade students about botany and the natural sciences while I was a high school student. I loved it so much I decided I wanted to continue studying biology through college, and now when I'm not tutoring online I am an instructor in that same program. I specialize in local wildlife; especially bees and other invertebrates and botany.

I have a BS in Biology and in addition to my science classes I also enjoyed English and Writing classes while attending university. Currently I work in education as an instructor of natural sciences where I get to work with sixth grade and also high school students. I teach about the local wildlife specifically, and my classroom is usually in the forest.

Previously I worked as a Student Library clerk in a university library for grad students in architecture, journalism, and design programs where I assisted students in research.

Before college I was attending Honors English classes in my highschool, completed two years of studying French, and taught natural sciences to sixth grade students for four years.

I have also spent the last couple of years traveling around the world to countries where English is not the primary language, and have enjoyed getting to know other cultures through language. One of my jobs also included managing a Starbucks kiosk where I trained baristas and new managers to work in other locations around the city.

I like to get to know my students and the things they care about. For my new students, we can talk about what you would like to get better at and what you may have struggled with, and together we can work through those problems and build a strong foundation for growth. Some students prefer to focus on work assigned through school, others may prefer personalized sessions in fields of study or topics they are passionate about. Every student is different and there are many ways to learn, my students can expect a personalized and positive learning environment no matter how big or small their goals are.

I've worked with 6th grade students, high school students, and adults of all academic backgrounds.

My favorite teachers never stopped learning, they didn't know everything in the world about their subject but they had passion for it and taught me how to learn it. I would advise students ask teachers what their future goals are as a teacher to find out if that teacher is passionate about their field of expertise.

I got the job I've always wanted.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There is always more than one way to learn something, therefore there is always more than one way to teach something. Do you feel like discussion helps you learn a subject? Is it guided practice you're looking for? Or maybe you prefer learning something a different way than other students? Do problems in one subject make a different subject more difficult? Some teachers may be better suited for you than others, and it can help to ask if lessons can be adapted to your learning style.
