About Emma

Hi I'm Emma! I am a senior in high school with a strong passion for the english language arts. I am equipt to tutor children all ages starting from the kindergarten level, up to the sixth grade. I love helping students learn new ways to understand material and work together to come up with a curriculum that helps them to reach their highest potential! I strive to help students grow in ways they never even knew was possible! I myself have struggled with some of the school's conventional teaching methods, so I have come up with many strategies throughout the years that students can use to both understand and learn the material, but also please their teachers as well. I can help your student by providing them with the extra support that they need in order to understand concepts that are difficult for them, and to solidify the concepts that they succeed in. I can also help with organizational skills, study tips, and time management! I believe that having a strong foundation in the english language, will allow for a child to have the necessary skills that they can build upon in their higher levels of education, making things such as essays, college applications, and the SATs/ACTs a lot easier. By creating a positive, uplifting, comfortable, learning environment, I truly believe that success is possible! (Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I will currently only be offering tutoring sessions strictly online. I will reassess opening in-person sessions back up by the spring/summer of 2021, as long as it is safe to do so).

I enjoy seeing students grow and watching them gain confidence in areas that once were a significant struggle. My favorite thing however, is seeing them genuinely wanting to learn and becoming excited over english, instead of dreading it!

I am a Senior in High School and have been in advanced level English courses all of my life. I am currently self studying for the AP English language and Composition exam, and am continually working to find ways to expand my knowledge in this subject. I have always excelled in english and have been repeatedly tested, proving my english language art skills to be at a college level. I have also received awards in numerous speech/speech and debate competitions, ranking anywhere between first and fifth places in final rounds. Along with these things, I am also the founder and leader of "Language Club" at my school, where we explore the history and culture of various languages from around the world. Recently, I have been working on writing my first poetry book, and am looking forward to its possible publication and printing, in the near future.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I like to start off by gaining an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses in the subject area. I will also typically gather information such as, what type of learner they are (visual, auditory, tactile etc), what accommodations, if any, they receive from their school, if they have any sort of learning disability, and what they are looking to gain from each of our tutoring sessions. Depending on the student's age, I will find some of this information through consultation with their parent or guardian.
