About Alyssa

My goal is always to help students perfect their learning ability. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone when learning is always my motto!

I have tutored elementary, middle school, and high school students since 2017. English has always been my favorite subject and I have always performed above average in advanced English courses. I have also done very well in math courses, geometry is my favorite!

In high school I completed AICE English Language AS Level, AICE English Literature AS Level (I got the highest score in my class), AICE General Paper, and was in dual enrollment english courses. I also graduated high school with all of my college composition requirements completed! Also, I took AICE Psychology, AICE U.S. History, AP Gov. & Politics, AICE Environmental Management, AP World History, AICE Global Perspectives, and AICE Thinking Skills.

I enjoy seeing that "moment of realization" on a student's face when they understand their work and are excited to continue.

I began tutoring in 2017. I started tutoring high school students in math, and elementary students in English. Then, I branched out to middle school students for both math and English.

I am a college student majoring in Legal History (lots of reading and writing)! English has always been my strong suit, both literature and analysis. Throughout high school, I was in AICE English classes and did dual enrollment my senior year. I have tutored students from the elementary level all the way to high school.

Initially when I began tutoring in 2017, it was mainly math courses such as Geometry or Algebra, so I have been tutoring math for the longest period of time.

I have also taken and passed AP Government and Politics, I got a perfect score on my Civics EOC in 7th grade, and I am a Legal History major on my way to law school!

About the lesson

First, I like to find out my students' strengthsso we can work to reinforce what they are already excelling at!

Second, we can figure out where the student needs improvement. When we know what we need to work on, we will review examples and practice.

I have worked with students aged 7-18, from elementary to high school seniors. I have worked with ADHD students and students who thought they would never excel in school. We can make a huge turn-around together!

My advice to students in search of a tutor would be to make sure you are comfortable with your tutor. If you don't understand something, it's okay to take more time to learn the topic! I would also suggest searching for a tutor who will push you to do better while still maintaining a balance between your strengths and areas that need improvement.

I am very fond of both fictional and non-fictional pieces. I enjoy novels, short stories, poetry, letters, newspaper readings, etc. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series.

Details

Due to COVID-19, I am not able to tutor students in person. However, I am available via zoom, facetime, phone calls, or messages. All sessions will range from 30 minutes-1 hour depending on the students needs/schedule. Elementary sessions will be $15 per hour, middle school sessions will be $20 per hour, and high school sessions will be $25-$30 depending on the level of the course. I am willing to be flexible given the current situtation.
