About Brittny
When first meeting with a student, I figure out an individual learning plan based on the learning style and needs of the student.
I love finding ways to make a concept make sense for a student, using their interest and knowledge they already have.
My teacher had just finished explaining a particular topic and sent the students off to complete some practice worksheets. What the students thought they understood when Mrs. Garcia was teaching was very confusing on paper. Hands shot up in the air throughout the classroom. It was taking her some time to get to all of the students, and I noticed the hand up to my left. I leaned to him and was able to answer his question and give a helpful explanation. As I was finishing I felt the presence of my teacher behind me. I turned around as she said, "Brittny, you'll make an excellent teacher one day." I was in first grade. That sentence has been floating in the back of my mind ever since.

It was running through the back of my mind when my parents asked me to tutor my little brother. It was in the back of my mind when I was approached to give private flute lessons. It was in the back of my mind when I was asked to organize a summer camp for children in high school. When I edited papers for English class, when I helped friends get into college, when I was deciding my own career path.

But I learned throughout all of those events that the thing I liked best was working one on one with other people. Helping them solve problems. Learning in the way that they were meant to.
I have been teaching most of my life. I love seeing a look of understanding appear across another's face. I love getting to help others achieve their goals. I love teaching.
I have a Master's Degree in Theatre and Performance Studies with an emphasis in Shakespeare and Liturature from the University of Colorado - Boulder. This specific training includes classes and instruction around teaching and, specifically, reaching students effictively. I strongly believe that personal connection with each student is what allows a student to succeed.
I have worked with students at the Early College of Arvada as a substitue in Math and English. During one of these specific times, I created a college-prep workshop where we discussed writing scholarship essays, financial aid, and what to expect while transitioning from high school to college.

The first session with any student will invovle an assesment (informal) to determine the student's preffered learning style, and the specific academic needs we can address. After this, the student and/or parent/gaurdian will sit down with me as we discuss the needs of the students and the best way to fulfull those needs within the parent's budget.
At this point, I will work with the student, starting to fill in any "gaps" in their education (ie specific topics the student does not understand in the given category, escpecially those which are fundamental to their success).
After the fundamentals are well established we will work on increasing the students skill set through the satisfactory and beyond.

I have worked with students of all ages throughout my life; however, my current knowledge and expertise revolves around the high school and early colliegate levels.
As I encourage students to find tutors and mentors that fit well with their intersts and personality, let me tell you a little bit more about myself and my intersts:
In addition to teaching, I am an actress in my career. I spend a lot of my free time reading plays and doing my own academic research about theatre, Shakespeare, and politics.
Outside of career pursits, I am an avid reader, a Marvel fan, and I have re-watched The Office and Parks and Recreation literally dozens of times. The Princess Bride is my favorite movie. I also enjoy learning about makeup and fashion.

Look for a tutor that you enjoy being around. (Even if that's not me!) If you enjoy being around them, or have other things in common with your students, it will be easier for you to learn. When I was in early high school I was having a really difficult time understanding fractional exponents until a teacher of mine used the Tesseract from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an example. Make sure your tutor can use things you understand to help you learn the things you don't.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should create specific goals for themselves to reach their need. "By the end of my tutoring term, I will [gain this skill]. This will help you narrow down to find a tutor who is right for you, and who will help you achieve those goals.
Also, think about questions you want to ask your tutor when you first meet to see if their a good fit for you. Aske about interests, qualifictions, and even ask them to teach you something about a random topic. If you learned something and feel like thier personality would be a good fit with yours, then move on to selecting services with them!

Pricing ranges from $25.00-$50.00 per hour depending on the service and the in-depth range of the topic the student and I will be going through.
Essay Editing or Homework Check - $25.00 per hour
In-Person Homework Help - $30.00 per hour
Specific Tutoring in a subject (Homework help included) -$40.00 per hour
College Admissions and Financial Aid - $50.00 per hour
