About Desiree
I have been tutoring for 16 years (since I was 16!) and have worked with a wide spectrum of ages, subjects, and languages! I am certified through Bridge Education in TEFL (Teaching English As a Foreign Language). I am also currently a 4th-grade teacher at the private American school in La Paz, Bolivia and a sophomore at Washington State University, Global Campus, getting my Bachelor's in Psychology and Human Development.
It can actually be quite fun! Teaching really ignites the creative process in me and so tutoring sessions are usually pretty upbeat and become a sort of "journey" into your material. I really like to find ways to help people remember what they are studying by making associations with other things. A lot of times I use songs or references to pop culture, or whatever will resonate with my students in order to have them be able to relate and ultimately remember what they are learning.
I got started teaching many years ago as a teenager tutoring the kids in my neighborhood and I just never stopped. I have taught children everything from Spiritual Concepts and life values to stop motion animation and film making.
I developed my life coaching practice and then was also teaching business English - it seemed like no matter what I did teaching was always a part of the equation! Now I teach 4th grade and love it!
I am a 4th grade teacher at the American Cooperative School in La Paz, Bolivia. ( (concealed information) )
I have been certified through the Bridge Education program in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) for all ages and with an emphasis on Business English.
I am a trained behavioral/ ontological Coach through Accomplishment Coaching in Washington, DC.
I am also a sophomore at Washington State University, Global Campus, getting my Bachelor's in Psychology and Human Development.

We begin by getting to know in detail what goals the student is needing to accomplish by the end of our time together. Perhaps they need to be able to write a persuasive essay or pass a specific test. Then, together, we analyze what time frame is the most doable and realistic so that this goal can be attained. The first session is usually closed with a plan of action, similar to a syllabus, so that my students can continue working independently.

Pretty straight forward - meet face to face and if you don't vibe then move on. It is very important that the relationship between student and teacher feel fluid and comfortable so that the student can truly get their money's worth!
I took my 3 year old son on a night walk (for the first time) through the small canyon town we live in La Paz, Bolivia. He was armed with the flashlight and the wonder in his eyes at seeing the natural world in the dark for the first time made ME see the world anew. He would point the flashlight at the things around him gasp everytime. He had seen all of this stuff during the day a million times but there was something about it being night time and HIM being in control of what we were looking at. I let him take the lead in the adventure and just took the back seat, ohhh and ahhhing along with him. It was so interesting to have a front row seat to his little experience!

Desiree tutored my 6 year old, 8 year old, and 10 year old over the course of 6 months. They covered everything from English language arts, Spanish, math, science and social studies.
My kids were always thrilled for class with Desiree as she is very good at making her classes fun and digestable for the little ones!Desi is such a kind and supportive tutor. I don't think I would have ever gotten through english class without her help. I was behind in reading all year but with her help I improved a lot! Thank you miss Desi!
Desi was super supportive whenever I had a question and always gave me the best answers. She is also super fun and friendly, which made my tutoring sessions better. Whenever I made a grammar mistake, she was quick to point it out and show me where I went wrong. My first English essay was a 70% but on my final I scored a 95% thanks to Desi’s help.
Desiree was very attentive with my 10-year-old who was having trouble with the material in his class. Social Studies and writing were his two most needed support points and working a few months with Desi really got him to a place of feeling confident enough to take it on on his own.
Desiree tutored my 6th grader through the material for the WIDA (English proficiency) entrance exam to get into the American Cooperative School in La Paz, Bolivia and my daughter passed the test with flying colors. They worked together for 6 months since English is my child's second language. Desiree made our classes engaging and effective making sure my daughter never got bored or complacent. I would highly recommend Desi!!
