About Julia

I'm a current student at FAU, pursuing my PhD in Zoology. I love helping fellow students on their journey! I also studied philosophy, so I'm able to help students think critically and write well. Not only do I like teaching abstract concepts, but I think it's important to make broader connections to other subjects (particularly everyday instances) so that learning is fun, interesting, and useful. I love the moment I see a concept click in a student's mind!

I've tutored at Florida International University and I am CRLA Level 1 certified.

I have experience tutoring a variety of subjects, such as math, science, business communication, philosophy, and English. I stand out because I tie in the real world when introducing or exploring a subject. It's important to show how something works, and why it matters. I'll ensure you have an in-depth grasp of the material, and that you will ace your school work. You won't need to keep coming back for tutoring sessions, because you'll be learning how to become an independent learner and thinker. With that said; however, everyone moves at their own pace.

I've been trained by the CRLA and received a level 1 certification in tutoring.

About the lesson

I begin by getting to know the student a bit; I don't want this to be an uncomfortable interaction between strangers. Then, I ask them to describe the material to the best of their ability, and what they think they need help with. We learn together, and I generally let my student do most of the talking, only speaking to correct or expand their answer or to congratulate them for their hard work. I'm completely open to all questions and my tutees will never feel judged or embarrassed.

I worked mostly with student athletes.

Details

Sessions are $15-25 an hour, depending on how long the session is, and other factors. I'm open about my pricing, and I'm open to negotiating to fit a student's financial needs.
