About Stacey
Currently, I am in a PhD program for English literature and I have taught as an adjunct English instructor at the community college and university levels. I understand what it takes what it takes to write well in both academic and professional settings.
I enjoy tutoring because I love working with students one-on-one. Improvements in writing, analysis, and comprehension take practice and time, and I like to make this learning process as interesting for my students by using material that they might enjoy.
I started teaching several years ago after completing my Master's degree because I am a strong communicator and I enjoy helping people understand complex, abstract material. This led me to pursue adjunct positions, and I worked as an adjunct for three years. I have also steadily tutored a few students while finishing grad school.
I have a BA and MA in English Literature and an MFA in Creative Writing, and I am currently in a PhD program for English.

I like to assess their writing with a few diagnostic exercises, and then I like to get to know them and their learning styles. By getting to know how a student learns and what their skill levels are, I will begin developing a plan for improvement alongside the student.
I have primarily worked with college students and high school students. With college students, I help them with any and all writing assignments and other professional/academic writing needs. With high school students, I help them with SAT essay prep, admissions essay/questions, and general writing needs.
I would suggest that they find someone they can communicate well with, and someone who will push them to do better. A tutor is not someone who will do the work for you, but someone who will give you tools for your own improvement.
Given our current state with the pandemic and wildfires in California, I am just fond that my loved ones and I are safe with a roof over our heads.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should communicate the aspects of their study habits and environment that help them concentrate and learn best. It's important for a teacher to know how students focus so that they can optimize their instruction for students' benefit.

For college students, my rate is $45/hr. For high school students, my rate is $35/hr. This rate is set based on my past experience and qualifications. I am willing to discuss my rates, if needed.
