About Susan
My students have consistently won the top awards in two of the County Art Shows. I believe in teaching techniques and assisting in developing an artist's eye, but still allow for the students' own creativity.
The most enjoyment I have is to be able to share my experience with people of all ages and watch them discover the awesome ways they can express themselves visually.
I received a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, have attended workshops through Ringling College of Art and Design. I also was the Art Teacher for grades K-12 for Peniel Baptist Academy. I have taught after school art lessons for 25 years through various non profit organizations. Some of those groups included The Palatka Art League, The Arts Council of Greater Palatka, The Art Hole, Inc., and The Lighthouse Home School.
Presently, I work through The Art Hole, Inc. (501c3) that my partner Luke Taft and I founded.

About the lesson

Although, I work through beginning drawing using pencil, pastels, and charcoal, I almost always start out with a painting. Painting is usually, not always, on a stretched canvas, using acrylic paints. The first weeks of painting are spent on basic strokes and learning to mix colors using the primary colors. As they progress, students learn the importance of shadows, highlights, contrast and perspective.
