· Enzymatic kinetic resolution using lipase to create standard curves by which enantioselectivity could be analyzed; efficient alternative to chiral chromatography

o Perform an assay for the lipase-catalyzed esterification of 1-phenylethanol that produced high conversion and could be detected by GC
o Determine the ratio of enantiomers present in starting solutions of 1-phenylethanol and produce a standard curve that related enantioenrichment of the sample to the yield of the lipase catalyzed reaction
o Exhibit generality in aims 1 and 2 by applying the same method using other chiral alcohols that can undergo similar enzyme catalyzed reactions
