About Zach
I am proactive in working with my students to ensure they achieve their objectives with the class or event. I am also very organized and have a great deal of teaching experience, so I am very experienced with knowing how to teach someone so that they learn in such a way that they understand and remember. My lessons are always organized, providing a copy of all the detailed recipes to the participants, and the process is step by step.
Sharing my excitement about desserts, baking, and chocolate, and getting my students/participants excited about chocolate as well as exposing them to new techniques and tips.
My story in chocolate began more than twenty-five years ago with my close relationship with Michel Jambon, founder of the European chocolate company Jeff de Bruges. Michel taught me a great deal about fine chocolate and how to appreciate various styles of chocolate making. Each time I traveled to Paris to visit his family, Michel would present me with a beautiful box of Jeff de Bruges chocolates.
During my travels throughout France over the years, I developed my sense of style and tastes for refined European pastry making and became passionate about the craft of working with fine chocolate and baking. One of the many ways I express this passion is through my chocolate dessert business Pure Chocolate Desserts by Zach, which I opened in 2003.
Teaching and watching others have fun learning about chocolate brings me a great deal of pleasure and is one of the most rewarding things I do.
Twenty-five years in the world of baking and working with chocolate in the kitchen including formal training at the French Pastry School in Chicago, the Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, and working in Paris at La Petite Rose pastry shop. I also have owned a dessert catering business and my current Dallas Chocolate Classes business for several years.

Awesome Fun!!!
I went to one of the public classes. There were 8 o us around Zach's dining table learning about chocolate and tasting various types. It was fascinating to learn how to "read" a chocolate bar label and to understand the process of creating chocolate. Then we went into the kitchen and made ganache and truffles. It was so much fun I decided to book Zach to do a private party for 40 people. For the group, we did the wine and chocolate pairing. The party was three weeks ago and people are still talking about it. Zach is very knowledgeable an the evening was fun and informational...and we drank wine and ate chocolate. I wouldn't hesitate to book him again. I look forward to the chance to take some of his other classes.A really fun and great event!
I arranged a wine and chocolate tasting event with a group of employees at work for a networking event and was referred to Zach. He took us through a journey of different fine wines and chocolates and described each of them really well. We had a really great time and learned a lot too. Plus, who doesn't love wine and chocolate? I would recommend Zach to anyone who is looking to have a fun party or get together with friends or family.Awesome, very enjoyable and profesional
Zach is a great and gracious host with a wealth of knowledge and profesional qualifications. I highly recommend anyone that is interested in Chocolate that they take the Tree to Truffles class.love this class
zach has taught this class twice to my daughter who loves to bake. She comes home full of information, amazing samples, and a desire for me to book the next class. my mother joined her each time and has equal accolades!AMAAZZZZIIIING Valentines Date! Zach is fantastic
Zach is just amazing at what he does. Very thorough and knowledgeable on chocolate. I loved his teaching style. I took my girlfriend here for a class at his home and there were 6 others too. Can't believe he invited us all to his private home, that makes everything so much more personal and intimate.
He knew his stuff and we all had fun. Even had a bottle of wine for all of us. I think I would not only recommend him for taking classes for chocolate for dates or special occasions but recommend him for the catering services he offers. I'll probably look into him when I get married!Fun time!
Zach is great. The class was very educational and insightful on the wonders and complexities of chocolates.A magical afternoon!
Terrific fun for chocolate enthusiasts and truly educational! Small classes are offered by expert chocolatier Zach Townsend. My husband and I attended “From Tree to Truffle” on a Sunday afternoon. Chef Zach unfolded the intricacies of fine chocolate making from selection of the cacao beans to techniques in the kitchen. He is a great teacher, a superb chef and created a magical atmosphere. Definitely will go for more classes! A++!I had an individual class that increased my knowledge a lot. I have been make chocolate for a hobby for 2 years and was not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. Wonderful class.
Magnificent Private Lesson
I love doing special memory makings for birthdays. So for my niece's 13th birthday, I asked her what she wanted to do. She said she wanted to learn all things chocolate. Zack Townsend's 2 hour private lesson was exactly the perfect gift. She learned about cocoa; from nibs to powder, baking processes and which % of chocolate to use for certain desserts. She made Jivara Ganache in Petite Jivara Tart Shells. We are going to plan more lessons.Excellent
Really enjoyed the class. Found my dream class! Zach is an excellent teacher and knows his chocolates ;)Super fun birthday idea!
I went to Zach with three of my friends and my mother to celebrate my 18th birthday! :)
We took the Magnificent Moose class. It was really fun learning more about chocolate and how to use it to make an amazing dessert. I am so glad that I decided to take a class with him, because Zach was encouraging and helpful as well as informative. It's no wonder that he has done over 300 classes. He knows his chocolate! :)Wonderful class for everyone!
This was a great chocolate making class for my grandchildren & me. Zach is very knowledgeable & adaptable. My girls are 9,11, & 13 - they all got involved in the process.View more recommendations

For a private lesson for 1 person, it's $60/hour (I determine the number of hours needed by reviewing their wishes for the class or event), and for a private lesson that includes 2 people it's $80/hour. For classes from 4-8 people, the prices range from $65/person to $89/person. Large groups of 9 or more (which include on-site corporate events or large-group events) vary depending on the program, but most prices fall within $20 to $37/person depending on the program and the size of the group. Prices include all materials needed.
