About Katie
I recently graduated from the University of Leeds with a MSc Infection, Immunity, and Human Disease and also have a BSc Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Previous experience includes over a year of private tutoring and working for an educational non-profit developing and evaluating educational programming. I have experience designing programming for students K-5th grade and 9th-college level with focus in maths and science. My last client experienced a one letter grade increase in all subjects tutored, including a two letter grade improvement in trigonometry and chemistry.

Every student learns differently and has different strengths. However, I have found through studying cognitive psychology and learning theory that deep stimulation consistently promotes the best learning. My aim with every program is to adapt to an individual's learning preferences and their unique strengths to stimulate deep learning. For some, this may involve facilitating socratic discussions on subject matter whereas for others this may mean drawing diagrams of concepts. In addition to employing different strategies, practice is key to my learning programs, especially in maths. I will not simply assist the student with their assigned homework problems, but create additional practice problems to ensure recognition and understanding of the subject matter.
