About Janell
I have a master's degree in math and science education. I have been teaching middle and high schoolers since 1992. I have a passion for working with young people and helping them develop a love for math and science. I have taught in a traditional school setting along with partnering with parents that have chosen to homeschool their students. I have semi-retired from teaching but don't want to lose the chance to work with teenagers and help them excel in their studies.
I got a teaching job right out of college in the early 90s at a Christian school in North Carolina.
I have a bachelor's degree in science and math education. I also have a masters in school administration.

I would want to test them to see where they are in the subject and then bring in supplemental material to help them get through the curriculum that they are using in their class.
I have worked with students that range in age from 12 to 18 years old. I also have done some tutoring for college students.
I would encourage them to find a person that will listen to them and wants what is best for them. It is important that they can explain it in a way that you understand it and just don't talk over your head.
Going to my student's graduation a few weeks ago and hearing about their plans for the future. I get especially excited hearing them talk about wanting to go into a STEM career. I also really enjoy catching up with the legacy families that I have taught several of their students.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. Are they familiar with the material that they need help with?
2. What is the teacher's availability?
3. Do they have any supplemental material that would help you better understand the subject you are struggling with?
