About Joy
I have studied the craft of acting for 15+ years with an MFA from the New School for Drama in New York City. I have worked internationally as an actor, writer, and producer. My award winning solo show has been critically acclaimed at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in Scotland and received Best comedy at the United Solo festival in NYC. I currently teach drama and dance in high schools throughout New York. I specialize in monologue work and audition prep. I believe in empowering my students to better understand themselves and their instrument and free themselves from internal blocks that hold us back from being the true artists that we are. Other areas of training include: clowning, Alexander technique, growtowski, musical theatre, intro to film, linklater, Meisner, scene study.
I love working individually with artists so I can really focus on their process and their goals.

We start off with personal writing exercises/monologues so the student can appraoch the work from a place of self and slowly we work towards characters.
We will then begin to work on monologues from plays and learn strucutre of breaking down text and elevating story through clear intention and communication.
We will then begin to work on auditions sides and I will start to teach them aspects of the business.
