About Talha

Having taught at Tutor Plus for many years as a founder and lead teacher, I have come to learn what works the best for my students and what doesn't. This is how through many years of experience, I have distilled and found the best ways to prepare my students for any sort of standardized tests.

A) EXPERIENCE

I have a total teaching experience of 12 years. I have prepared students for SAT, ACT, SAT 2 LEVEL 1 MATHS, SAT 2 LEVEL 2 MATHS, GMAT, GRE for 6 years. Through my experience, I have learned the strategies that work for the vast majority of students and strategies that do not work. In my teaching, over the years I have taken into account the gap between conventional school teaching and the skills that a certain student is required to have to ace any of the standardized tests. That is why my students have scored amazingly well in any of the standardized tests.

B) CUSTOMIZED APPROACH FOR EVERY STUDENT

I also understand and make my students understand how significant university admission can be for them. For any of my classes, I start with a diagnostic test and from there onwards I discuss a comprehensive plan with both students and parents outlining the areas students need to improve on. This helps me and my students identify the right amount of time and approach to take a particular exam. The subjects and tests that I prepare for are SAT, ACT, SAT 2 LEVEL 1 MATHS, SAT 2 LEVEL 2 MATHS, GMAT, GRE, Algebra 1, Algebra 2.

C) HOW DO I TEACH? WHAT MEDIUM DO I USE TO TEACH?

I conduct my sessions live with students at the Zoom meeting. I share the screen of an Ipad Pro with the students. That is why it is easy for all my students to understand what I am teaching them. I make all my lectures so interesting that students don’t even feel that they are sitting at home while taking the lectures. That is how students stay interested and are always looking forward to the next session.

D) HOW ARE MY RESULTS SO GOOD? WHAT APPROACH DO I FOLLOW?

Over the years, I have invested a lot of time in preparing and writing the questions that I use to teach different courses. After I have taught a certain topic, I make students do multiple examples related to the same topic in our class. After that, each of my students has to complete multiple exercises at home that has many questions from the same topic. Through this, my students get to revise the same topic on the same day at home. All my students are supposed to achieve a mastery level in every topic. I keep assigning them new questions on every topic unless they have achieved mastery level in each of the topics related to the test that they are taking.

To understand this better, let’s say if I am teaching a topic from SAT Math called factorization, I start it from the very basic. I teach my students what factorization is. I start from the very basic examples of factorization then transition towards difficult examples and then eventually the questions that are based on real SATs. Then I make my students do more practice problems on factorization based on real SATs. Then I assign my students more practice problems on factorization for home and keep assigning more practice problems until my students have achieved mastery level in factorization. This is how I go on to make sure that my students are not simply taking the classes but are building the skills needed to ace their tests. I do the same for every test I prepare my students for be it SAT, ACT, GMAT, or any other standardized tests.

This is done to make sure that my students leave no stone unturned when it comes to any sort of question that they may come across in the test that they are preparing for. The questions that they are not able to do from the assigned homework are all discussed in the next session to reinforce the concepts even further.

This is the same methodology that I use for SAT, ACT, SAT 2 LEVEL 1 MATHS, SAT 2 LEVEL 2 MATHS, GMAT, GRE, Algebra 1, Algebra 2.

E) IMPORTANCE OF FULL-LENGTH TESTS

Once my students have mastered all the skills needed to ace the test, I take their multiple Full-Length Tests till the day they have their actual test for SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, etc. This helps me and my students in making sure that we haven’t left a stone unturned in all our practice. Full-Length tests are also taken throughout the preparation session to make sure that students get to see how far they have come from the point where they started their preparation.

F) FREQUENT UPDATES FROM STUDENTS ON THEIR PREPARATION

Besides the regular classes, I also stay in touch with all my students and stay informed on their daily progress through WhatsApp. My students must write me on WhatsApp every day and inform me what they have studied in the previous 24 hours related to the exam that they are taking. It helps me in eliminating any sort of communication gap between me and my student. Through this, I also stay informed on the daily progress of all my students. In addition to that, my students can also always reach out with a problem that they are facing.

Using all of these strategies besides other strategies that I can’t disclose here for obvious reasons has helped me in making sure that my students achieve the best score in SAT, ACT, SAT 2 Level 1 Math, SAT 2 Level 2 Math, GMAT, GRE, etc.

My students have left amazing reviews for me over the years. The reviews can be further read here.

(concealed information)

What I like most about the work I do is connecting with my students personally and being able to understand their issues on a level that brings the best out in them.

One of the aspects that I really like about my job is that not all students are the same. Therefore as a teacher, in the very first class I make sure to analyze what my students are good at and what they are not so good at. And from there onwards I design a customized plan for them focusing more on their weak areas.

I have always had a knack for teaching. Teaching is what keeps me going. It is one of those things that I am really looking forward to every day.

I started off teaching when I was in high school and was looking forward to make some extra money and tutored some middle school kids. From there it evolved into a passion and passion later on evolved into a profession and there has been no looking back ever since.

I have prepared myself for various aptitude tests when I was a student and prepared more than a 1000 students so far for various aptitude tests including SATs, GMAT and GRE. Through my years of experience, I have only refined the way I teach and have gotten only better at it.

I have worked with various students hailing from different backgrounds.

I have taughts kids who are dyslexic. I have taught students who almost had no foundation when it comes to Maths. I have taught students who had very little and no English speaking background and they wanted to apply to mulitple good universities.

So far it has been a mix of all sorts of students.

If I were you and hiring a teacher for SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE so I would really ask teacher about his own scores for the said tests. Moreover I would ask teacher for his or her own relevant experience with these tests. Also I would like ask teacher that how many students he or she has prepared over the years and what their results have been and what kind of universities those students went to after taking the tests. These are some of the basic questions that I would ask if I were you.

I think one of the events that I am really excited to share hear was when I was attending a wedding and I ran into a student of mine and that student of mine literally introduced me to everyone by saying that "I am the reason that he got into a university of his choice" and honestly it was one of the most overwhelming thing to hear from a student that too in a wedding among too many people.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Some of the basic questions that students should definitely think through are as follows:

How do you think the tutor can help you?

What exactly are you looking forward to when you are hiring a tutor?

Have you made yourself clear to the tutor and have you explained your objectives to the tutor clearly?
