About BRIAN
Empathetic to a student's needs, flexible to the student's schedule, a heart to teach and partner with students, and to share my experience in the industry as compared to their academic environment.
I have worked over 40 years in the accounting profession. I truly enjoy the daily responsibilities and working with business partners to ensure their success in the workplace.
I have worked primarily in the manurfacturing industry with small and large companies. I have worked for Apple, Inc. and most recently for a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. My favorite experience however was with smaller companies and being more involved at the leadership level.
I have earned my CPA and CMA certificates.
In addition to being an adjunct faculty member at Corning Community College, I am also the the Accounting Manager of a foundation that supports a 4 year university with scholarships for students.
There was a need for an adjunct instructor at Corning Community College and I met with a professor at the college while attending an Excel training class. We spoke about the opportunity and I was able to fit it into my normal work schedule. I really enjoy being in the classroom helping students with their accounting classes while working on their degrees.
I have taught both financial and managerial accounting for about 10 semesters as an adjunct faculty member at Corning Community College. My accounting experience includes a over 35 years in several different industries, primarily manufacturing, as a cost accountant/analyst, cost accoutning manager, and a controller for corporations, both small and Fortune 500.

I start off by understanding the class details from the syllabus, understand the class structure, i.e., online or in class, and the student's current workload. In addition, I like to know if the student is using an online textbook/resources like Cengage or WileyPlus. At that point, I just like to understand the student's preference in terms of amount of time needed/desired and then develop a plan going forward. Depending on geographical locations, I would either arrange to get together or am fine with meeting with the student via webcam.
I have worked with students that are pursuing an AA degree in business as well as students who are pursuing their 4 year business degree but starting at the community college environment. The students abilities have spanned the spectrum from some facing some form of learning disability to students who are highly motivated and high achievers.
Find someone that you can connect with and that has your best interest in mind. Someone with teaching/tutoring experience, accounting experience outside of academia, and also has the heart for students and the challenges that they all deal with pursuing their education.
Spring semester 2020 was of course interrupted with COVID 19 and we were forced to go from face-to-face classes to 100% online format. Although both the students and myself struggled at first, we all became settled with the new structure of learning. Although I didn't enjoy being out of the classroom, I did enjoy the results from the students that were able to complete the course. Eight students were able to complete the course with seven of them earning As and the one earning a B. Very good semester given the extreme circumstances we all have been dealing with.

What areas am I specifically having trouble with? What am I doing that is giving me the best chance to be successful? What areas may I need to change my approach to be successful? Am I motivated enough to achieve the best results that I am capable of?

I appreciated Brian Henry's availability to help me with homework questions. I am a working adult completing my degree and Mr. Henry was willing to accommodate my schedule to find time to work with me. This even included spending an hour speaking with me on the phone one Saturday evening after I got out of work.
I liked how he would always make sure we understood what was going on in each Chapter of Accounting. He would be available to answer any of our questions and was very easy to understand. I felt comfortable to go to him if I needed anything.
Mr.Henry was a great teacher and a fantastic tutor to us students. He made sure that every student understood the material no matter how long it took. Brian was my professor during the beginning of the Covid-19 where our college was instructed to perform classes remotely. He made sure that he took the extra time to tutor the students that needed help while learning how to instruct remotely. A group of students and I took the opportunity to use his tutoring when the class got difficult. Brian was very understanding personable and flexible with us. He would meet whenever we emailed him with a question. He made sure he clearly and throughly explained the topic until every student in the study group knew what we needed to know. Throughout my experience, Mr. Henry was the most helpful professor/tutor during the covid-19 pandemic and I would highly recommend him for any style of tutoring.
Professor Henry is amazing! The way that he explains things and the time he is willing to spend teaching is amazing! He is the one professor that will go above and beyond for anybody that needs the help! I would recommend him to anybody and everybody!!
