About Rhiannon
Hi there! My name is Rhiannon, you can call me Rhi though if you like, and I am super excited to be your tutor. With a strong background in both primary and secondary school teaching, across a whole array of subjects including math, English, health, psychology, history and international studies. I am dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals and to ultimately build confidence in their own abilities. I do this by first, breaking the learning down into key components and starting from the ground-up. Ensuring that first, we have a solid understanding of the key basics, this will be our foundation from which we then build upon with our further learning. This results in a full understanding of the concept matter and a thorough comprehension and ability to apply this learning in their everyday lives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
I hold a bachelor's in teaching from Deakin University, and I have over 10 years of experience in teaching in a classroom and tutoring students from a diverse range of backgrounds. My professional journey includes receiving an award scholarship from the Golden Key International Honours society for my academic performance, I graduated with high distinction from Deakin and went straight into a secondary teaching role at Christian College teaching math and history to VCE students. Over the last 10 years, I have also taught lower and middle school aged children and have always ran private tutorships after school times and on weekends. Some further learning that I have done in this time includes a master's in financial planning and a diploma of counselling.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My teaching philosophy is grounded in creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment for the student. I believe that every student has unique strengths and learning styles, and my goal is to tailor my approach to meet each individual’s needs. By fostering a collaborative and engaging atmosphere, I aim to make learning both effective and enjoyable. I don't only educate for my students to 'learn' or to meet national standards... I educate so that my students gain a thorough understanding and comprehension, with which they are able to go on and apply their knowledge and newly acquired skills as a part of their everyday lives.

My approach involves setting achievable goals, providing constructive feedback, and celebrating progress. Lessons are centered around personalized learning and active engagement. Typically utilizing a combination of the following:
STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING: I tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs, strengths, and interests of each student. By understanding their goals and learning style, I create customized lesson plans that address their specific areas of improvement.
INTERACTIVE LEARNING: I incorporate a variety of interactive activities and multimedia resources to make learning dynamic and engaging. This includes problem-solving exercises, discussions, and hands-on projects that reinforce the material.
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT: Regular assessments and feedback are integral to my teaching. I use formative assessments to gauge understanding and adjust my instruction as needed. This helps in identifying areas that require more focus and ensures continuous progress.
ENCOURAGING CRITICAL THINKING: I emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving skills rather than rote memorization. This helps students not only grasp the material but also apply their knowledge in practical situations.
DURATION OF LESSONS:
Most of my lessons are usually 60-90 mins in duration. I find this allows for an in-depth exploration of topics while keeping students engaged and avoiding fatigue. However, I am flexible and can adjust the length based on the student’s needs and the complexity of the subject matter if needed.
EXPERIENCE:
I hold a bachelor's in teaching from Deakin University, and I have over 10 years' experience working as a classroom teacher (primary and secondary) and tutoring students outside the classroom. Specific subjects include all primary school aged content and secondary school subjects include Mathematics, English, Health, Psychology, History and International Studies.
MY BACKGROUND:
I received an award scholarship from the Golden Key Internation Honours Society whilst I was a student at Deakin based upon my academic performance. I have also done my master's in financial planning and a diploma in counselling. I have successfully worked with an array of students each at varying levels of learning and have a proven track record of helping each of them achieve their academic goals.
EVERYONE WELCOME:
My lessons can be designed to suit absolutely anyone, I adapt my teaching strategy accordingly to suit the individual needs of each of my students and their proficiency level. My usual students, however, tend to be from mid to high primary school age (grade 3/4 - 5/6), or high school students (grade 7 through to VCE). However, it should be noted I have also successfully had many adult aged students as well.
