About Yan
I studied piano from the age of 3, and it has been a 27-year journey until now. I obtained my certificate in Grade 8 Piano from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, UK, in 2010. One of my favorite experiences was performing in a music concert at the Hong Kong landmark in front of thousands of people.
I have 5 years of experience teaching private 1-on-1 piano and group piano classes in kindergarten and music centers. I am an early childhood educator who is confident in dealing with young children with different abilities and personalities. I am currently working at the Ontario Conservatory of Music as a part-time teacher who teaches group and individual classes with all ages of students.

Therefore, I tailor my teaching methods and materials to fit the individual needs of each student. Additionally, since happiness and play are crucial components of effective learning at any age, I foster a supportive and encouraging environment that inspires students to explore and experiment with their musical abilities. I praise effort and progress, celebrate achievements, and provide constructive feedback that helps the student improve. Furthermore, a strong foundation in technique and theory is essential for a student to develop into a proficient pianist. I also emphasize the importance of proper hand positioning, finger dexterity, rhythm, and note-reading skills from the very beginning.
