About Ameera

I'm currently a medical student at the University of Edinburgh, where alongside my studies I continue to mentor students both within and beyond medicine. I've always enjoyed helping others reach goals they once thought were out of reach, whether that's improving exam grades, building confidence or preparing for the next stage of their education.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy pursuing interests that challenge me in different ways. I'm a diploma-level classical pianist and a Grade 8 ballet dancer, and I also enjoy learning languages and writing / performing poetry. I think these interests have reinforced the value of patience, creativity and finding different ways to approach a problem — qualities that I also bring into my tutoring.

Above all, I want my students to feel supported, understood and confident in their own ability. I don't believe there is such thing as a "bad" student. Seeing someone go from "I can't do this" to explaining a concept with confidence is what makes tutoring so rewarding for me. I would be delighted to help you achieve your goals!

Every student learns differently, so I don't believe there is such a thing as a "difficult subject" — only a teaching approach that hasn't yet been adapted to that individual. My lessons are built around understanding how each student learns best, their current strengths and challenges, and what they ultimately want to achieve.

Our first lesson focuses on getting to know one another. I'll assess current attainment, identify knowledge gaps, discuss confidence levels, learning preferences, and any challenges affecting progress, before creating a personalised learning plan with realistic milestones. Whether you're aiming for top grades, trying to secure a pass, catching up after falling behind, or simply wanting to feel more confident in lessons, I tailor my teaching accordingly.

I don't believe in hour-long lectures or simply giving students the answers. My lessons are highly interactive and encourage students to think aloud, explain their reasoning, ask questions freely and learn from mistakes without fear of judgement. For students focusing on exams, we work through carefully selected past paper questions with increasing difficulty, refining both understanding and exam technique. For those needing to learn new content, I explain concepts step by step using diagrams, worked examples and active recall techniques, regularly checking understanding before moving on.

I teach using official exam specifications, past papers and high-quality teaching resources to ensure every lesson is directly relevant to the student's course. Rather than relying on lengthy PowerPoint presentations, I teach live using diagrams, whiteboards and interactive explanations. Students can receive copies of lesson notes or recordings afterwards, depending on what suits their learning style best.

I have extensive experience supporting students with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette syndrome, chronic illness, anxiety and other barriers to learning. Lessons are adapted to each student, whether that means adjusting the pace, incorporating movement or short breaks, communicating through chat when appropriate, or simply providing a calm and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence.

Homework is recommended where appropriate and is tailored to each student's workload, ability and goals. I mark work between lessons and remain available for brief questions outside lesson time, helping students stay on track without feeling overwhelmed.

I have over a decade of experience supporting young people through both voluntary and freelance teaching roles. I teach KS3 Maths and Science, GCSE Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and A Level Biology, Year 12 Chemistry and Year 12 Mathematics. I also mentor prospective medical students with interview preparation and guidance on strengthening their applications.

Lessons are available online in 60, 90 or 120-minute sessions via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp or Telegram. I hold a PVG (Scottish DBS) certificate, and parents are welcome to receive regular progress updates if they wish.

Above all, my aim is not only to improve grades, but to help students leave each lesson feeling more confident, more capable and genuinely understanding the subject. Many of my students have improved their grades, moved into higher sets, overcome anxiety around maths and science, and developed the confidence to tackle challenges they previously believed were beyond them.
