About Lara
I am a part time tutor with many years of experience tutoring maths up to GCSE level. I have a degree in Human Biology (and also work part time in teenage and young adult cancer research) and maths up to first year degree level. I have had students from the bottom set get moved up to the top set and awarded a maths challenge prize after a few months of tutoring.

I believe that patience is the most important quality of a maths tutor. Maths can be frustrating when you don't understand something, and I believe patience and encouragement, as well as the ability to look at a problem from a different angle is the key to overcoming this. Confidence in your ability to solve a maths problem is a great asset and I like to work to instil this in my students, especially the ones that have always been led to believe they are simply 'not good at maths'. I think in these cases they have simply not been taught properly, and with the right help can excel.
