About Julia
The first thing you should know about me is that I'm something of a word nut--I love languages! I love learning about them, and I love helping other people to learn about them, too! I taught high school English and high school Spanish for five years, I've taught in overseas language camps, and I'm currently teaching an adult beginning Spanish class in my own hometown, so I've had a wide and varied experience. I don't take myself too seriously, and I don't want you to, either--language learning should be fun and interesting, not just rote memorization of rules. And if you make a mistake, that's fine--mistakes are proof that you're trying! Learning to give yourself grace is perhaps the most important language skill there is!

I specialize in teaching language skills to upper elementary-adult students. I believe that being proficient in a language means learning more than just grammar rules and/or vocabulary, but actually being able to confidently speak, read and write, and understand that language when it is spoken. Because of this, every lesson will involve practice in all four areas of language learning; I don't want you to simply memorize words and phrases--I want you to understand how to use them creatively yourself! My classes are for beginning to intermediate Spanish speakers and will focus on basic Spanish vocabulary, understanding and using conjugations, and past, present and future tenses of verbs.
