About Emma
I am a qualified and experienced primary school teacher. I graduated from Exeter University in 2007 with an honours degree in mathematics and later undertook a PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University which I passed with distinction.
I am also a KS2 National Curriculum SATs marker and my performance has been graded ‘excellent’. Being an examiner has been a hugely valuable experience as it has highlighted common misconceptions and errors made by children in their tests. I apply this knowledge within my teaching and help equip pupils with sound exam technique.
I have a tangible passion for teaching and a wealth of knowledge and experience with educating children in Years 4, 5 and 6. I bring energy and enthusiasm to my lessons and aim to inspire pupils to be actively interested in learning.
I have eight years experience as a KS2 full-time teacher, three of those as a specialist maths teacher in Hampshire. I have a thorough understanding of the National Curriculum and endeavour to keep up to date with any changes that take place. I have taught a whole spectrum of abilities and have experience in successfully preparing children for SATs and 11+ tests in Dorset with an exceptionally high success rate.
I aim to build each pupil’s confidence and enthusiasm for maths and English both in school and in life outside of school. I have high expectations of my pupils and seek commitment and a positive attitude.
I am friendly, patient and approachable and I aim to build a positive relationship with each pupil I teach. I empathise with the struggles often associated with learning and my teaching style lends itself to creating a supportive and enjoyable environment which challenges pupils to reach their full potential.
Once I have made an assessment of a pupil’s abilities, I tailor my lessons to suit the needs of the learner with a mixture of fun activities to engage and to challenge. My lessons are well structured and always prepared in advance. I am able to give very clear explanations of concepts and methods supported by using visual and interactive resources. I am always on the lookout for new inspiration and resources that are in tune with children’s interests. For test preparation, I can provide published materials at extra cost.
Lessons are 1 hour, with 5 minutes left free at the end to discuss the pupil’s learning with parents. I recommend setting a small amount of homework, to consolidate the learning, but this can be discussed. I am also willing to liaise with the child’s teacher at the parent’s request.

Perfect! Excellent tutor
Emma is so friendly, kind and reassuring. She has such a gentle approach and my daughter genuinely looks forward to her visits.
