About Shaquetta
I'm a current English major at Bucknell University with a strong academic background in literature and writing. Before college, I completed both IB and AP English courses, consistently earning top marks across all my English classes. My experiences have given me a deep understanding of complex texts, academic writing, and the skills needed to succeed in rigorous English programs. As someone who has recently navigated the same challenges students face today, I bring relatable insight and up-to-date strategies to every lesson. I focus on building confidence, improving critical thinking, and helping students write with clarity and purpose. As a tutor, my approach is rooted in clarity, curiosity, and confidence-building. I believe that English and literature are not just about grammar rules or dense texts—they’re about finding meaning, developing voice, and thinking critically. I specialize in helping students unpack complex literature, strengthen their essay writing, and prepare for exams like the IB English assessments, AP Language & Literature, and high school coursework.
My teaching method blends active discussion with guided analysis. I encourage students to ask questions, challenge ideas, and make connections between texts and their own lives. A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in on goals or assignments, followed by a deep dive into either a passage, prompt, or writing task. We'll break things down together—line by line, argument by argument—so students leave not only with a better grade but with real understanding.
What sets me apart is that I’ve recently excelled in the same material my students are studying. I know how stressful timed essays and oral commentaries can be—and I offer strategies that actually work because I’ve used them myself. I’m relatable, patient, and passionate about making English feel less intimidating and more empowering.
