About Matthew
Hello! I’m Matthew, a qualified English Literature graduate from the University of Edinburgh with a passion for helping students connect with texts, develop their writing voice, and feel more confident in the classroom. I’ve worked with secondary school students, and I understand how to tailor lessons to different abilities, learning styles, and exam boards. Whether you’re preparing for GCSEs, A-Levels, or just want to improve your understanding of literature and language, I provide a supportive and focused learning environment. I believe that great tutoring is about more than just results—it’s about helping students enjoy what they’re learning and feel proud of their progress. I offer tailored, engaging English Literature and Language lessons designed to build confidence, sharpen analytical thinking, and improve written expression. My teaching style is friendly, structured, and responsive to each student’s needs—whether they’re aiming for top grades or need support catching up. Lessons typically run for 60 minutes, and I use a mix of close reading, discussion, exam practice, and targeted feedback. I always begin with a short diagnostic or conversation to understand your learning goals, current level, and preferred style of working. I’ve previously tutored secondary students focusing on GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language, and I hold an MA in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh. I’m also happy to support learners in related subjects such as Politics, Modern Studies, or Sociology, particularly where essay writing or critical reading is involved. My lessons are suitable for students aged 11+, including KS3, GCSE, and A-Level learners, and I offer both online and in-person sessions in London.
