About Rodrigo
Hello! I'm Rodrigo, a California credentialed mathematics teacher with 19 years of experience helping students build confidence and succeed in math. I hold a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Spanish from California State University, Sacramento, along with a BCLAD teaching credential in Mathematics and Spanish. Throughout my career, I have taught students in middle school, high school, charter schools, traditional public schools, and independent study programs.
I believe that every student can learn mathematics with the right guidance, encouragement, and instructional approach. My teaching focuses on building a strong conceptual foundation rather than memorization, helping students understand not only how to solve problems but also why mathematical concepts work. I create a supportive, patient, and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.
Over the years, I have worked with students of all ability levels, including advanced learners, English learners, students with learning differences, and those who have struggled with math anxiety. I take pride in adapting each lesson to the student's individual needs, learning style, and academic goals.

I believe every student can succeed in mathematics when instruction is tailored to their individual learning style. My goal is not simply to help students complete homework or prepare for a test, but to develop confidence, critical thinking skills, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts that will benefit them long after our sessions end.
With 19 years of experience teaching middle school and high school mathematics, I use a patient, encouraging, and highly interactive approach. Rather than relying on memorization, I help students understand the "why" behind mathematical procedures so they can apply their knowledge to new and challenging problems. I break complex concepts into manageable steps, use real-world examples, visual models, guided practice, and frequent checks for understanding to ensure lasting learning.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material to identify strengths and address misconceptions. We then work through new concepts together using clear explanations and worked examples before gradually transitioning to guided practice and independent problem-solving. Throughout the lesson, I provide immediate feedback and adjust instruction based on the student's progress. I conclude each session by reviewing key concepts, answering questions, and creating a personalized plan for continued practice.
I tutor students in elementary mathematics, middle school math, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Integrated Math, pre-calculus fundamentals, and general mathematics support. I also help students prepare for quizzes, exams, standardized tests, credit recovery, and independent study courses.
What sets me apart is my extensive classroom experience teaching students with a wide range of abilities, including English learners, students with learning differences, and those who have struggled with math confidence. As a credentialed mathematics teacher, I have taught hundreds of students and understand how to identify learning gaps, personalize instruction, and motivate students to reach their goals. Whether a student needs remediation, enrichment, homework assistance, or long-term academic coaching, I provide structured, engaging lessons designed to build both mathematical understanding and confidence.
