About George
I am a student at the University of Cambridge (King's College), who achieved a 2:1 in my first year studying Music. I know the syllabuses for music examinations provided by several exam boards and am happy to look at new content so that I can best support you. I achieved an A* in music at A-Level so know the course content and exam technique extremely well. My experience teaching music in both a one-on-one setting and to small groups in secondary schools has allowed me to develop a teaching style in which lots of content can be covered effectively and in a fun way, ensuring that each student understands and can move at their own pace. I applied to 5 universities and 5 conservatoires, receiving offers from all 5 universities and 2 of the conservatoires. Therefore, I am also able to help with UCAS applications through both of these routes.

In my experience, set works tend to be the most dreaded aspect of GCSE and A-Level Music. I found this component much easier when I began to listen for the answers as opposed to attempting to remember all of them. I can therefore work with you to improve your listening skills, whilst developing your knowledge of the set works. I am also able to teach GCSE and A-Level music theory and technical composition (chorales, counterpoint, etc.) – each student finds different aspects of these difficult and so the best approach is a combination of mini assessments, talking through key principles, and simply practising. I will mark any work that is completed and give feedback to the student, ensuring they understand any mistakes that they have made. I understand that students learn in different ways and have different strengths and weaknesses from each other; therefore, I am adaptable in how I teach so that I can deliver content in the way that is easiest to understand for each student.
