I am an experienced Mechanical Engineer and have taught extensively to students from various levels for over 8 years! I specialise in teaching Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology and I am especially effective in improving grades with exam techniques. My teaching approach: > Simplicity and real life examples - I excel at communicating in simple terms and with experiences that we encounter every day, something we can touch and feel! > Diagrams - I show confusing concepts with clear simple diagrams. > Practice questions to improve grades - I have lots of materials to practise with. Other things I do: I work hard to plan lessons and to cater to each student's individual needs. I am always delighted by questions - the more you ask the better. Thanks to my ability to explain things 'simply' I have had great results with all my students. My passion for Science is contagious and I can make most topics super interesting :) Example lesson: We will start by introducing ourselves and the task at hand. I will ask you simple questions about the topics you want to cover (such as, what is the most difficult part you face, have you studied it before at school or with friends etc.). Once I understand your level of comfort with the topic, I will suggest a plan on how to proceed. We will often start with an explanation of the terminology used in for that topic in books and in exam papers and use diagrams and examples to simplify these. Once (and only when) you are comfortable, we will move to practice questions which we will do together until you start becoming confident. When you feel like you can take questions on your own I will give you a short quiz to see how you have improved and amend any areas if needed.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I first got interested in Science and Physics in HighSchool when I learned about Mechanics and Forces - it was very fascinating for me to understand how and why the physical world behaved. I started by helping my friends with their school work and slowly realised that sometimes I helped them better than our teachers! I soon was helping a lot of the class and when I started University I formally began working as a tutor
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I love all three Sciences (Physics being my favourite but I love Chemistry and Biology too) and Maths. My most favourite topics of discussion are when knowledge from all three areas is being used (like in the preparation of Medical School Entrance tests GAMSAT).
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Like most people who like Physics - I love the work and life of Albert Einstein - in particular his quote: If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think it takes many traits but the most important ones are emotional intelligence, ability to speak in a simple language and ability to explain things with stories, diagrams and questions.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I was once helping to prepare a Thai student for an entrance exam into a competitive School in Bath. The student was completely new to the UK system of education and really wanted to get into this school. We worked together for 3 weeks before the entrance exam and in addition to helping him with the Science subjects, I also tried to provide moral support and coaching for him. As he was in a new culture and country - he needed this support and responded very well to it. This student worked really hard and was able to pass the exam on his first attempt. His mum was delighted and they took me out for a celebratory lunch at a very nice Thai restaurant I thought this was a very kind gesture from them and I was very happy with our work together.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

In high school when I was learning the basic scientific concepts for the first time, I was never clearly told the actual meaning of terms. E.g. I was told the textbook definition of terms such as 'Force' or 'Diffusion' but never actually told how I can experience and understand these in real life situations. I think this creates a problem where students can not associate closely with what they are learning - which i believe is important for confidence building and clear understanding.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a passion for motorsport. I own (a beautiful) Suzuki Motorbike and love taking care of it myself. I try to understand how its engine and suspension works and I have bought a lot of tools to service it myself - love getting my hands dirty and making my bike better when I can. I think any chance I get to use my knowledge of engineering to do practical activities is a bonus.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

My passion to help. I think all my motivation and hard work comes from the fact that I genuinely want people to truly understand concepts and ideas. This helps me to prepare my lessons with enthusiasm and really be creative with using techniques such as diagrams and real life personal experiences to explain the learning content.
