About Katie
A highly experienced tutor of all ages, I am able to adapt to the student's preferred learning style and specific needs. I have previously tutored students English and French as a foreign language, as well as History, Sociology and English Literature and Language at GCSE and A Level. The ages of my students ranges from 3 - 30 years. I spent 7 months as an English Teaching Assistant abroad, where I was able to experience different teaching styles and approaches in different schools. My previous position working for an educational charity which provides tutoring to disadvantaged children, means I have spent a lot of time observing different tutors and their teaching methods, which has given me invaluable insight into the most effective methods of tutoring. I am passionate about improving education and creating new ways to foster independence and promote critical thinking amongst students.

My teaching approach is fostering independence by encouraging student-led lessons. While I create well-structured, guided lesson plans, I ensure my students are given a space where they can think out loud, question and challenge existing knowledge, and work out problems themselves. Giving students the tools to achieve high grades is important, but ensuring they are confident to independently apply these questions in an exam is key to their continued success. I aim to make my lessons as interactive as possible as the more fun and interesting the lesson the more engaged the student will be. For this reason I tailor the themes of my lessons according to a student's specific interests and requirements. Each lesson is carefully thought out with a starter, main and plenary activity that allows the student to consolidate their knowledge throughout. I use real life examples and contexts to help students connect to their learning.
