About Shyama
Hi, I’m Shyama, an ACA-qualified accountant with a degree in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics (LSE). I achieved 7 A*s and 3 As at GCSE, an A in Business Studies at AS Level, and 2 A*s and an A in Economics, Psychology, and Maths at A Level. With over three years of tutoring experience, I have helped students across KS1, KS2, KS3, and GCSE levels—specialising in Mathematics and Business Studies. I also prepare KS2 students for their 11+ exams and SATs, ensuring they are fully equipped for success. I understand that every student has their own unique learning style, and that’s why I design personalised learning programmes to suit their individual needs. By tailoring lessons and encouraging a positive, supportive environment, I help students explore new ways of learning without the fear of failure. My aim is to make learning both effective and enjoyable, allowing students to develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter while building the confidence they need to succeed. I’m passionate about creating an energetic and engaging learning experience that not only helps students grasp the material, but also encourages them to take ownership of their learning journey. One of my main goals is to equip students with key skills that empower them to learn independently—something I believe is crucial, especially as exams such as the 11+ and GCSEs become more challenging and competitive each year. My approach is always structured and results-driven. I begin by assessing each student’s current level of knowledge, which allows me to design a learning plan that is both achievable and ambitious. Whether we're tackling specific topics or preparing for an exam, I focus on ensuring that every lesson builds on what the student already knows and strengthens areas where improvement is needed. Having worked with major exam boards like AQA, Edexcel, and OCR, I am up-to-date with the latest curriculum changes and grading systems, including the new 9-1 grading scale. This ensures that I can provide targeted support and relevant strategies that directly align with the requirements of the exams. For me, teaching is not just about imparting knowledge—it’s about fostering a sense of achievement and fulfilment in my students. I genuinely enjoy helping them grow academically, and seeing them gain the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond is incredibly rewarding.
