About Richard
I am a patient, supportive, and student-centred tutor who focuses on building confidence, understanding, and real progress. My lessons are tailored to each learner’s needs, using clear explanations, step-by-step guidance, and practical examples to make learning engaging and accessible. A typical session lasts 60 minutes, giving us time to explore new concepts, practise skills, and review understanding at a comfortable pace. I have experience teaching learners of different ages and abilities, including those who benefit from additional support or differentiated learning. My background in education and care has strengthened my communication skills, empathy, and ability to adapt my teaching style to suit each student’s learning preferences. My lessons are suitable for children, teens, and adults, whether they are beginners, need extra academic support, or want to build confidence in a specific subject. I adapt my teaching style to each learner’s level and pace, ensuring that every session is engaging, supportive, and tailored to their goals. A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, giving us time to introduce new concepts, practise openings or tactics, analyse positions, and play through scenarios that strengthen decision-making. I also provide optional practice tasks and strategy tips to help students continue improving between sessions. I have experience teaching learners of different ages and abilities, including beginners who are just discovering the game, intermediate players looking to sharpen their skills, and students who want to improve their confidence, discipline, and problem-solving abilities through chess. My background in education and one-to-one tutoring allows me to break down complex ideas into simple, practical steps that students can apply immediately. My lessons are suitable for children, teens, and adults, whether they are complete beginners, casual players, or learners preparing for school competitions. I create a friendly, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring new strategies, and developing their own style of play.
