About Ben
Hi, I'm a tutor of English and Maths, based in Clapham. I’ve been tutoring for the last seven years, on this site and with some of the best professional agencies in London.

------------------
I graduated from the University of Edinburgh, where I studied English Literature from 2010-2014. I also have a Cambridge CELTA teaching qualification, and have taught English as a foreign language in the UK and abroad.
In the past seven years, I have worked with students of all different abilities, helping some to push for A*/Level 9 grades, and others to raise their grade from a fail to a pass.
This experience has given me a great awareness of the areas that different students find difficult, and the best ways of tackling these specific problems. When taking on a new student, my first task is to assess their current level and the style of teaching that will most benefit them.
I can then tailor my lesson around their needs, to make sure they are engaged and motivated by the subject. My lessons are always personalised on an individual basis, and I’m constantly looking for new and innovative methods of teaching, to find the best way of connecting with each individual student.
I really believe in the power of tutoring to boost a young student’s confidence, and help them find their potential. I think that this original and personal approach has helped my students to achieve highly at school and for their exams.
My goals as a tutor are:
1. To motivate my students and raise their belief in their own ability
2. To ensure they have covered the syllabus and achieved a thorough understanding
3. To support and encourage their independent study skills with revision plans and techniques
Please get in touch if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to help.
A-LEVEL & IB: Please note my rate for A-level/IB support is £50/hour.

Maths is a subject many students think is not for them. Either they think they don't have the right brain for it, or they find it boring and hard to connect to.
I studied Maths up to Higher Level at IB, and it was always a subject that I enjoyed, just as much as English and other humanities. If you can find ways to enjoy Maths, I believe it becomes a lot easier to learn.
Often, students who struggle with Maths have fallen slightly behind at an earlier stage, and are lacking a full understanding of certain core principles. This quickly becomes very discouraging, as they move on to harder topics which require that basic foundation to succeed.
When tutoring Maths, I always start with the basics, and build up. Using games, tasks, challenges and exercises, I aim to make the complicated topics seem straightforward.
