About Busiswa
"My Passion for Teaching English: A Personal Journey"
Growing up, I struggled to express myself in English. As a non-native speaker, I felt lost in a sea of words, unable to convey my thoughts and feelings. School was daunting; native-speaking classmates spoke with ease and confidence, while I stumbled over words.
One experience left an indelible mark on me. During recess, an elderly woman approached our school's front desk, seeking help. She struggled to communicate in English, her words tangled in frustration. But instead of patience, she faced dismissal. Students and staff alike couldn't understand her, and soon, they left her standing alone, confused and defeated.
Something inside me stirred. I mustered the courage to approach her and asked if I could help. With gestures and simple words, we connected. I translated her concerns to the school staff, ensuring she received the assistance she needed.
In that moment, I realized the power of language to empower or isolate. I vowed to help others bridge this gap.
As I learned English, I faced similar challenges:
- Misunderstandings due to accent or vocabulary limitations
- Feeling self-conscious about speaking up
- Struggling to keep pace with native speakers
But I persevered, fueled by the memory of that elderly woman. I saw myself in her – the frustration, the desire to connect, and the resilience.
Today, as a certified English teacher I'm driven to:
- Create a safe space for non-native speakers to grow
- Break language barriers through personalized learning
- Foster confidence in English communication
My teaching philosophy is rooted in:
