About Gyles
As much as I love science and enjoy helping my students push forward the frontiers of knowledge, I keep myself busy with a fair few hobbies.
I play bass guitar in a band, play a number of sports including tennis and football, and I have been known to try fermenting a wide range of things.
I am genuinely curious about the world around me and do what I can to pass on what I've learned in the best way possible

I like to see myself as a "scientist who teaches" as opposed to a "science teacher". This is well exemplified by over 8 years of teaching experience, split between secondary education, undergraduate lectures, and private tutoring, alongside PhD research and working in labs.
In a typical 1 hour lesson, I use my students interests and likes as a groundwork for covering new areas. I subtly use repetition to promote retention and work with a variety of learning styles to maintain engagement. I found this works well withing my current GCSE students and works to challenge A-level students to think outside of the scope of exams. Overall I aim to encourage understanding and pass on as much enjoyment for studying science as possible
