About Dawn
I have been working in education since I graduated from college in 1994 with an English degree. I have taught research writing, essay writing, literature analysis, poetry analysis, and theology. My undergraduate degree is in English Literature and my graduate degree is in counseling. I have served as a school counselor as well as a teacher in private education for the last 12 years. I love teaching and I appreciate those who engage in their learning with vigor and expectancy. I have recently stepped out of the school system to write more and speak for a non-profit in Charlotte, NC.

My junior year English teacher inspired me to go on to study and teach English. There is an entire world to discover in the pages of literature. My undergraduate degree is in English Literature and my graduate degree is in counseling. My style of teaching is to be conversational and contemplative. Lectures will involve both. When analyzing literature or poetry, there is a need to sit with the text. I believe asking questions that lead to answers is imperative to understanding. Though I see aspects of technology being helpful, and projects that can utilize technology being effective learning tools, I also think the study of literature and poetry can stand alone in ways. Writing is one way to reflect and discover. Reading critiques is necessary to understanding. The discovery happens together between student and teacher.
