About Joseph
Hello! I am a PhD student in English Literature and Creative Writing, currently tutoring for GCSE, A-Level or University level students. I have completed two degrees in English Literature and have many years of experience in researching and writing about this subject! Whether it was written in 1300 or 2023, I am very enthusiastic about literature and have become skilled at interpreting and discussing texts with others, as well as structuring and proofreading essays. I enjoy any opportunity to pass on my acquired understanding. I look to help pupils with strategies for improving their textual analysis and essay writing, but I also believe in the importance of engaging a student's attention at a deeper level - to locate together within each text what is fascinating about the characters and stories on a human level, and hence foster a more genuine appreciation and enjoyment of the subject as a whole. I have had my own poems, reviews and essays published in various websites and journals, and am currently working on my first novel, which will be completed for my PhD. My expertise is therefore unique for being creative as well as academic. Since graduating from my Master's, I have been employed at two different London-based Universities in student support roles, working alongside academics to deliver high quality education. A good tutor should be down-to-earth, understanding and patient, and these qualities are all central to my approach. I look forward to working with you!
