About Edward Emilio
I have a BA and an MA in English literature. My research focus is in the Romantic Period. I am currently a student at ASU working on my PhD. in English literature. I have been continuously employed at ASU as an instructor teaching early college academic writing. Since the spring of 2020, I've been teaching English academic composition to students whose native languages are not English.

My lessons change depending on what exactly is needed. If you need to work on composition, then that is where we begin. If we need to work on the basics like grammar and sentence structure, then that is where we begin.
Teaching individually is not a one-size-fits-all kind of situation: each student will have their own needs, and it is up to me to aid with that. Rhetoric requires a different approach, and would begin with a lesson on the definition of rhetoric, teaching the rhetorical appeals, and working through the different logical fallacies that crop up when composing work in the argumentative genre. More advanced lessons on composition would focus on research methods and sorting sources: which are acceptable and which are not.
If the focus is on literature, then my strategy mainly uses the Socratic method to discuss topics and themes which occur within a given work of literature.
My lessons are geared toward those who are in their first years of college or advanced high school students. Do keep in mind that I have no degree in secondary education: I am qualified to give instruction at the College level so please consider this when deciding whether to employ my services.
