About Sophie
I am a friendly, patient and professional young woman with experience teaching predominantly pre-school children, although during my time at sixth form I partook in mentoring schemes which helped younger students to improve attainment in their exams. My main subject area is English Literature which I can tutor to A2 level, although I am also confident in GCSE French to A* grade and GCSE English Language and Literature to A*. I am happy to travel a cycle-able distance (!), provide online tutoring or receive students at my home.
A bit of info about my academic background:
After completing my A-Levels, I rushed into an English and Drama course at the University of Birmingham. I completed a year and a half, but in the December of 2019, realised it was not the right path for me. I wanted to pursue teaching instead, and had always loved working with younger children. I am currently studying for a Childcare apprenticeship, and working with pre-school aged kids gives me plenty of experience in the classroom. After this I will be applying for a degree in Primary education - teaching is not just a weekend job for me!
Having two teachers for parents, one in the Sciences and one in the Humanities, has inspired my passion for teaching and helping others to reach their potential. It also means that I have absorbed, through a sort of parental osmosis, the ability to explain complex ideas and to communicate solutions to students!
I am more than happy to follow an external scheme of work or take a more creative route with my tutoring.
