As a tutor, I like to discover more about my students, and tailor lessons to their interests. We work together to learn what works best for each person. As an experienced educator, I am passionate about learning together, and am not a teacher who simply assigns work and walks away.
A typical lesson plan will include a warm-up or engagement activity to spark interest in the material with which we'll be working. Then I will introduce the reading and some contextual background, with opportunities for the student to ask questions or respond to my questions. I usually present a text in several stages rather than all at once, and assess student understanding as we work. There is typically a writing activity to finish out the lesson, and to practice or reflect on what we have learned.
I have taught a variety of classes over my 17 years, including Grades 10, 11, and 12, AP Language, research writing, and remedial courses.
