About Sara
Hi!
I am a holder of an American Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Society and Culture. This degree encompassed many areas of the social sciences, including literature, history, psychology and philosophy. I am uniquely trained and positioned to help students from various backgrounds reach their goals in understanding or improving in any of these disciplines.
After obtaining my bachelor's degree at an international university, I wanted to keep exploring multicultural environments and I moved to London to enrol in a teaching course at UCL. The Institute of Education (IOE) is a part of University College London. UCL is ranked as a top 10. university worldwide, whilst the IOE is ranked as number one in the world for Education and has held this position consecutively for 13 years. I obtained my PGCE (Post-Graduate Certificate in Education) from English Language and Literature. During this time, I worked and taught at two secondary schools in London - one in Camden and one in Walthamstow. I have experience with each year group and taught many pupils with additional learning needs (such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, stutters, etc). I have experience with a wide range of teaching and learning techniques, which helps with tailoring the perfect approach for you. I am a big fan of using dual coding, providing support in the form of scaffolding and discussion-led learning. I believe in fostering a safe, creative and focused environment in my lessons.

Offering 30 or 60 minute sessions. My technique is to provide scaffolding and slowly take it away as we progress with our lessons, until my pupils are fully capable of completing their work to a high standard individually. Lessons can include but are not limited to: using dual coding for better understanding, discussion-led learning and questioning. I strive to ensure my pupils learn to think critically rather than repeat material that has been fed to them.
In context, this can look like discussions about the morality of imposing Western cultural standards on Caliban in Shakespeare's 'The Tempest', looking at his behaviour through the lens of 'nature vs nurture'. Due to my unique blend of social science skills, I am able to weave in multiple real world contexts, teaching my pupils many different skills at once. This particular discussion resulted in my Year 8 pupils offering outstanding insights into colonialism, morality, linguistics (!) and power structures.

My rates are based on my broad interdisciplinary knowledge across the humanities, which is a rare foundation that allows me to connect subjects and adapt to diverse student needs. My PGCE from UCL’s Institute of Education is a gold-standard teaching credential. The hands-on experience with SEN I have obtained during my teaching years, combined with my toolkit of dual coding, scaffolding, and discussion-led learning, shows I offer genuinely tailored, high-quality support. My rate reflects my elite training, proven adaptability, and ability to deliver real progress across the humanities.
