About Heather
I bring you over two decades of professional and private tutoring experience, beginning with UNC - Chapel Hill and Duke University’s well-known writing centers. My PhD is in English and Writing Composition, and I have held positions as English professor and Writing Center administrator, allowing me to interact with a variety of populations. I’ve taught and tutored at Research I institutions in North Carolina (UNC & Duke U), a small university in South Carolina (FMU) and community colleges in California (Pasadena City College & College of the Canyons), as well as tutoring for SAT prep, reading, ADHD strategies and EFL speakers.

I offer interactive one-on-one tutoring sessions that focus on planning for your assignment or reviewing your work so far on an assignment. I’m happy to accept academic, job related or personal projects! We’ll start by setting specific assignment/project goals and outline your concerns about your work in relation to those goals. This short discussion will provide the framework for out session objectives. My goal is to help with your current project in a way that allows you to develop specific strategies as a writer and project leader. I’m especially good at addressing anxiety related to writing or presenting material, and have a lot of experience recognizing limiting beliefs a person may have about writing process or their own abilities without realizing it. Any project you put yourself into can feel personal, and we can make that work for you!
