About Samonna
I am a naturally warm individual who is encouraging and humourous. I believe that being genuine and authentic is one of the best ways to build positive relationships with students. I want my students to feel comfortable being themselves, asking questions and learning without worrying about getting everything right the first time.
I particularly enjoy working with students who may lack confidence in English. For me, seeing a student go from thinking “I can’t do this” to realising that they actually can is one of the most rewarding parts of working with young people.
I currently work in a secondary school, where I support students through 1:1 mentoring, structured interventions and group sessions. Working closely with students has given me a real understanding of how different their needs, personalities and learning styles can be.
Alongside my professional experience, I have an A-level in English Literature and Language, as well as qualifications in Counselling Skills and Mental Health First Aid. I regularly create resources and activities for the students I work with and adapt my sessions to make sure they are accessible, engaging and suited to the individual.
Ultimately, I want students to leave my lessons feeling not only more confident in their English, but more confident in themselves as learners.

I offer supportive 1:1 lessons that are completely student-centred. No two students are the same in my eyes and my lessons reflect this. I take the time to understand each student, their individual needs and identify any barriers that may be affecting their learning both inside and outside the classroom. My background in working 1:1 with students in a school environment heavily influences the way I structure my lessons.
I use a combination of explanation, questioning, guided practice and independent activities to help students develop a genuine understanding of a topic, rather than simply memorising or repeating an answer.
My lessons are 60 minutes long and can support areas including:
• Reading comprehension
• Creative writing
• Grammar
• Vocabulary
• Essay and paragraph structure
• Analysing texts
• Homework support
• Study skills
A typical lesson may include a recap of previous learning, focused teaching and explanation, guided practice, and an opportunity for the student to apply what they have learned independently. Lesson structure will vary depending on the student's individual needs and learning goals.
