About Joseph
I'm a London-based workshop facilitator, drama teacher, and English tutor. I equally enjoy working with pupils who are passionate about the subject and those who have less personal interest but are keen to do well in their exams. I have a First Class degree in English & Drama from Queen Mary University of London. My favourite topics to teach include Shakespeare, Contemporary Drama, Creative Writing and Poetry. My final dissertation project explored performance and spectatorship in the urban landscape. In 2017, I presented a research paper at the British Conference for Undergraduate Research. I have experience tutoring English Language, Literature, and Drama GCSE. Currently, I work as a freelance drama facilitator and teach acting at a Saturday Performing Arts school to pupils aged 6-15. I pride myself on keeping up to date with exam board syllabuses and enjoy creative approaches to academic challenges. I also work extensively with past papers and exam-style texts and questions to ensure that pupils develop description and analytical skills as well as exam technique. Outside of academia, I am a theatre director, writer, and occasional performer. I write theatre criticism and reviews for which I was recently awarded the Sunday Times Harold Hobson Drama Critic Award at the National Student Drama Festival. I have also written a number of short plays and performance poems.
