About Emilee
I am an English and Law student who will go on to study journalism at university. I have a lot of patience and am flexible but I will work hard with you to push you to the best of your ability. I believe that everyone has the ability to achieve the highest grades; it is down to me to enable them to feel secure that they can do so. I have also been told that I am good at teaching others and explaining difficult concepts in simplistic ways that are easy to understand. I am good with children.

Are you worried about your upcoming exams? Just need someone to sit down and explain everything properly? Then you’re looking in the right place:) No matter how late it is in the year when you’re reading this, there IS something I can help you do to save your grades! I am offering beginner to advanced English lessons and literacy to primary, secondary and GCSE students in Bristol. I can tutor via webcam as well as I am unfortunately unable to travel. I mark English essays/work and am also willing to proofread any work for free. I can teach grammar, spelling, punctuation, creative writing, revision techniques and reading as well as the GCSE syllabus. I can also teach A-level content to GCSE students who are aiming for the highest grades. The lessons can be anything you want them to be. Want to practise writing articles and letters? That’s fine with me. Want to learn how to structure your essays, construct a concise argument and adopt more sophisticated vocabulary? That’s also fine with me. As I am a strong believer that the best way to learn a subject is through enjoying it, I aim to make lessons as amusing and interactive as I can. I believe that everyone is capable of achieving the highest grades and so I aim to bring out the full potential in my students. I approach lessons by firstly establishing the student’s current academic ability and their preferred style of learning (e.g. visual, kinaesthetic etc.) I ask them what it is they want to learn and base my teaching around that to help them gain confidence in that particular field. I determine what their weakest and strongest areas are and we write them down in two separate columns. The aim is that all their weakest areas will be transformed into their strongest areas by the time they end their sessions. From that, I can formulate a lesson plan which is best fitted for the individual and one that I believe will be the most beneficial to guide them to their desired progress. Along with this, achievable goals will be established so the student understands their area of focus and the steps required to get there. I use whiteboard teaching, PowerPoint slides, mind maps, past papers, advanced vocabulary lists and revision textbooks to teach my students depending on which ones are the most appropriate for their learning style. For kinaesthetic learners I find that activities revolved around repetition are very helpful. I set my students exam questions so they can become confident in how to answer them and we can devise essay plans too. I also go through mark schemes (at GCSE level) as it’s important to understand what marks are awarded for. Homework is distributed sparingly to consolidate learning and track progress. I provide all textbooks and source materials but please also bring your own revision material/textbooks along as it may help to have something you’re familiar with, especially due to the differing exam boards.
