About Samirah
I am an English Graduate student with experience in the classroom with students, and outside of the classroom as a writing tutor. I have worked with students from various backgrounds and majors, and have helped them become better writers, and understand the importance of writing. I have helped students who had little skill in writing papers write research papers that earned them top grades in class, and have helped them understand various works from authors such as Jane Austen, Edgar Allen Poe, and Shakespeare. My recent experience as a college student also makes me much easier to communicate with than an older tutor or professor because I feel more like an ally or mentor than a teacher.

- I am a supportive and compassionate mentor who uses her own experiences as a student to help navigate the complexities of higher level English courses and literature.
- Lessons would be structured in a way that is most beneficial to the student. An overview of what we are going to do and what the student can expect, gauge their interest and understanding of the subject, going through the material in-depth, and a recap of everything that happened during the session with a preview of what will happen next session.
- I have professional experience working with undergraduate students in an English class, and have dealt with a variety of issues concerning their assignments and work in class.
- I have experience due to working at the writing center, meaning that I have worked with students from different majors and have helped them understand certain citation formats, and helped them achieve better grades.
- Focused on helping undergraduate students who are majoring in English, or are taking English general education classes (particularly as it relates to English literature).
- Can also help high-school students who are taking advanced English courses (particularly as it relates to English literature).
