About Holly
I have a Masters degree in English from Florida State University, where I both tutored and taught English. Before that, I received a bachelors degree in English, and also tutored at the Student Success Center as an undergraduate. For both of these rolls, I was required to take multiple classes that focused on the best practices for teaching English to college level students. I know how to conduct myself in a professional, respectful manner, and I also know and fully understand my subject matter. Please know that I will do everything I can to ensure that my students gain the skills and confidence they need to eventually continue their educational and professional careers on their own without the need for a tutor.

I believe that a successful tutoring session involves conversation and engagement between the student and the teacher. A typical lesson will involve a brief introduction where the student explains what they need or are struggling with, and then I will explain or demonstrate as needed. I do not expect to do all of the talking. I want the student to engage, give suggestions and express ideas. You do not need to have an essay, thesis, resume, or any other full length document to schedule a tutoring session with me. You may still be in the brainstorming process; you may not have typed or written a single word yet. That's ok! I will meet with students and adult learners wherever they are in the writing process. I generally prefer to hold sessions with high school students, college students, graduate students, and adult learners. I am most qualified to tutor grammar, essay writing, advanced essay writing, and literary analysis, but I am more than proficient in all areas of the subject of English.
