About Samantha
My name is Samantha and teaching is my greatest passion. I taught English as a Second Language and English Language Arts in Shanghai, China from 2014 to 2023. Throughout my time teaching, I have worked with students of all ages, levels, and from all walks of life. Besides education, my other passions include traveling, astrology, and spending great deals of time relaxing with my two cats.
My aim as a tutor is to ensure that my students are progressing toward their educational goals. Each student may
have different goals and ways of learning, but with support and guidance, all students can and will succeed.

My approach to teaching combines compassion and purpose.
I take time in the beginning of each learning session to engage with my student(s) for the purpose of rapport, engagement and enjoyment. I begin the lesson by eliciting ways in which the topic or task relates to the student, personally. Once our casual discussion about the topic is complete, I formally introduce the topic using a variety of means: through stories, articles, excerpts from text, and through pictures and photographs. We then engage with the information via games and/or written tasks under my guidance. Once the student(s) have engaged in the topic and display understanding, I assign a task that they can do independently in order to further practice the topic; this part of the lesson also allows me to assess just how much more needs to be taught regarding the topic. Each class ends with a short game or discussion to wrap up the session.
My approach to each lesson is one that can be applied to working with students of all ages and learning levels.
