About Ario

I have loved tutoring Maths and Sciences to students from all parts of the world for the last 12 years.  I was previously a Maths teacher at the Dragon School, Oxford, one of the highest-ranked prep schools in the UK. I specialise in teaching the following exams to students aged 8 to 16: - KS2 - KS3 - GCSE/IGCSE - Common Entrance - ISEB Pretest - School Entrance Exams - Scholarship Exams  I have a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bristol University. I have also worked professionally as an engineer in various countries, including Vietnam, Japan and Indonesia.  I am particularly experienced with scholarship preparation. Having gained a scholarship to Eton myself, and later taught scholarship classes at the Dragon School, I know the rigour required and how best to guide students through these demanding papers. Over the years, I have supported many students through Entrance and Scholarship Exams to leading schools in the UK. All have received excellent offers, with numerous scholarship awards among them. All of my students have remarked how much more they enjoy Maths and Science after a few sessions with me, and how much more confident they feel when tackling new topics or question styles. I bring all my experiences from my professional background as an engineer, where I share real-world examples and anecdotes that make the subject come alive.

I specialise in teaching Maths and Sciences to students from Year 4 to Year 11, across all standards from KS2 to GCSE/IGCSE, though I have, additionally, a strong background in teaching French and Latin to the same levels. I also prepare students for School Entrance and Scholarship Examinations within this age range, including Shcolarship-specific subjects such as General Papers. During my time as a Maths teacher at the Dragon School, Oxford, I came to appreciate how essential it is for students to develop a rock-solid grasp of fundamental principles. Even in the best schools, gaps in these foundations are common, and they can hold students back from reaching their full potential. My approach is designed to help students strengthen their core knowledge and then apply it effectively to achieve maximum marks. I focus on the following: • Identifying and filling in fundamental gaps in the student’s knowledge • Helping students interpret questions so they fully understand what is being asked • Teaching how to structure answers to deliver complete solutions efficiently • Guiding students in self-assessment, so they can judge how successfully they are answering and learn to identify and correct their own errors • Ultimately, building students’ confidence so they are ready to attempt any question and grow into independent learners All lessons are carefully tailored to each individual. I invest a good amount of time learning how each student processes, and, from this basis, we can start to build up each student’s capacity to become the best that they can be. As this style of teaching goes far beyond the simple transfer of information, I recommend longer sessions of at least one hour. Don’t worry, we have plenty of fun, and time always seems to fly by! In addition, I place strong emphasis on developing rigorous and efficient methods of working. My lessons include clear demonstrations of best practice, ensuring students not only learn the material, but also how to think and work like true mathematicians and scientists.

My approach is very individual, with no two students being taught the same. I ensure to accurately and completely identify all my students' weaknesses, and to work to fill in any gaps in their knowledge and understanding. Strengthening the foundation of a student's knowledge is the first, and, by far the most important, step to ensuring that they can progress well, and the heart of all of my teaching is to give each student the most solid platform possible for them to extend their learning better than ever before. I also provide in-depth reports, with suggestions as to what the student can do to improve independently, alongside a record of tasks done, how well they did, and a summary of what was learned that can can be taken forward. All of this takes an enormous amount of time and effort outside of lesson time, which is reflected in my rate.
