About Kayla

I’m an engineering graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, one of the top engineering schools in the country, where I also worked as a teaching assistant. I’ve tutored maths one-on-one at every level, from arithmetic through calculus, and I enjoy helping students go from frustrated to confident. I am currently a student at the Royal College of Art working towards my masters in product design.

Before coming to the UK, I worked as a high ropes adventure guide, where I spent my days helping children of all ages face real challenges, manage nerves, and push past what they thought they could do. That experience taught me patience, how to read a student’s mood, and how to build trust quickly. Those skills carry over directly to the way I teach.

Outside of work, you’ll find me making jewellery and sewing dresses, exploring the outdoors, or spending time with animals. I like bringing that same curiosity and creativity into my lessons, and I’m looking forward to helping you or your child succeed.

I believe every student learns differently, so I start by finding out where you are, what’s working, and where you get stuck. From there, I tailor each lesson to your learning style and pace. We don’t move on until a concept is truly solid, because mastery of the fundamentals is what makes harder material feel manageable instead of overwhelming.

I use the EDGE framework (explain, demonstrate, guide, enable). I explain concepts in clear, plain language and connect them to what you already know. Lessons are interactive: you’ll work through problems with me, not just watch me solve them. If a topic isn’t clicking, I’ll try a different explanation, a visual, or a real-world example until it does. Building a strong foundation is the key to long-term progress, whether the goal is catching up, keeping up, or getting ahead.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, though I’m happy to adjust to what works best for you.

Students of all ages and levels, from elementary school maths through college calculus. Whether you need help with homework, are preparing for an exam, or want to build confidence from the ground up, I’ll create a plan that fits your goals.
