About Alistair
I am an emeritus professor with 4 degrees and extensive teaching and examining experience at several universities in the United Kingdom. I have been in charge of large, multi-programme Study Skills and Dissertation modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I am the author of books, journal articles and encyclopaedia entries. I have maintained my skills in teaching and communication, both online and offline. I have hundreds of hours' experience as a personal development tutor and as School Director of Student Experience and Research Integrity Leader. I want to share all I have learnt from these 'hard yards' with YOU!!

I offer online one-to-one (or, where practical, f2f) and one-to-several lessons on essay/thesis/dissertation structure and techniques. I also can help you prepare for examinations, oral presentations, project work, and getting published. Happy to read and discuss drafts. Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and vocational subjects are my main fields of expertise. All levels covered, from HNC, 1st-year undergraduate, sophomores, final year, master's (taught & research), PhDs and other doctorates, up to post-doctoral. I can advise informally on your personal development and career plans. Any country welcome, but tuition is in English language.

Perfect! I contacted Al to get some help analysing qualitative data for my dissertation. He was extremely helpful and provided me with the information I needed to proceed in the right direction. He is really easy to talk to, approachable and knowledgeable. He provided me with what I needed and made the information easy to understand. I highly recommend contacting him if you need any help with anything.
Perfect! Alistair is able to give me invaluable additional insight into my own academic process. Helping me to find my own voice in the text, craft arguments, remind me of the importance of grammer, weigh evidence and prove my findings as well as veiw the work from a markers perspective. This has fundamentally changed my approach to my work. In the 5 and a half years i have spent as a university student, i have been unable to find the personal attention and insights that Alastair provides. He is literally the DON.

I had the pleasure of working with Alistair for many years. I am happy to say and learned a lot from him and he offered me when I was starting in research a lot of support and guidance. His has a lot of expertise and experience and is very good at passing his knowledge.
Alistair is passionate about making knowledge accessible and purposeful. As part of a programme I run at the Edinburgh Futures Institute I invited Alistair to prepare two expert guest lectures on the area that he has particular expertise - how society uses information, and the rise of mis and distrust of information. His lectures were excellent, full of information, clear, data driven, very well structured and sharing brilliant insights.
