About Reid
When I was a student in k through 12 public education, I never wanted to be a teacher. I didn't particularly like teachers. I fell into and in love with it, after earning my first degree - my BA in English. I started teaching GED classes and I was amazed at how the students progressed, how much potential they had, how barriers between them fell over the course of a class. And I found my calling - what I'm good at and what I like and it is teaching. I went on to earn a Master's Degree in English and continued to teach, rising through the ranks from instructor, to assistant professor, to Tenured Associate Professor to my current rank of Professor Emeritus. I can teach any level of Reading, English and Critical Thinking. I am hyper aware of the impact social emotional conditions have on learning and do my very best to help students feel welcome, important, empowered and ultimately successful.

I'm a reactive teacher. I try to learn student interests and incorporate those interests where and whenever possible in the assignments. For example, I might ask a student to write an argument, but they would have the freedom to argue whatever they care about - what they really care about. I'm very student centered and understand the importance of social emotional learning. If a student doesn't feel valued, welcome, comfortable, important, then learning is never maximized. I can tutor/teach any student in any level of reading, writing, argument, critical thinking, - any level of English from K through 12 to graduate level writing.
