I am a dedicated elementary reading tutor with a passion for empowering students to become confident, lifelong readers. With professional certifications in both Special Education and English as a Second Language (ESL), I specialize in creating inclusive, personalized learning environments that meet the unique needs of every learner. My approach combines evidence-based literacy instruction with engaging, multisensory activities to help students build essential phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills. I make literacy accessible for students K-5! I utilize the Science of Reading framework of instruction, focusing on core components of literacy: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, & Comprehension.
My lessons are direct and explicit - I typically model the skill first, have students practice the skill along with me, then have students show the skill themselves.
*A typical reading lesson plan looks like:
-Review of previous sound/spelling/letter
-Introduction of new sound/spelling/letter
-Practice blending and segmenting sounds
-Practice automatic word recognition/sight words
-Applying new sound/spelling to decodable texts
-Shared reading/comprehension practice
*Lessons are always individualized and tailored to student needs. As a practicing special education teacher, my goal is always to master skills before moving on to new ones!
